BUILDING RESILIENCE

FINDING STRENGTH IN DIFFICULT TIMES

Resilience is our ability to bounce back after challenges, adapt to change, and to keep going when things feel hard. It doesn’t mean we never struggle - it means we learn how to support ourselves through tough times and come out the other side with new understanding or strength.

At ConnectWell, we believe that resilience isn't something you either have or don’t have. It’s something that can be built over time, especially when you're supported, informed, and empowered to care for your own wellbeing.

What Does Resilience Look Like?
Resilience can look different for everyone. For some, it might mean reaching out instead of isolating. For others, it could be returning to a healthy routine after a setback, or learning from an experience rather than being defined by it.

It doesn’t mean “keeping it together” all the time. It means recognising what you need, asking for support when you need it, and finding ways to carry yourself forward - even slowly.

"Sometimes you need to be alone, not to be lonely, but to enjoy yourself.
Self-discovery is a gift, treasure it"

TIPS FOR BUILDING RESILIENCE

Here are some gentle, realistic ways to support your resilience and wellbeing:

 1. Practice Self-Awareness

Check in with yourself regularly—emotionally, physically, and mentally. Journaling or using WRAP® Wellness Tools can help you notice patterns and recognise what supports you.

 2. Create a Daily Anchor

A small habit like a morning stretch, a cup of tea, or 5 minutes of quiet time can give you a sense of steadiness, even on difficult days.

 3. Stay Connected

Reach out to others—friends, family, or even a Peer Support Group. Human connection is one of the strongest protectors of mental health.

4. Talk Kindly to Yourself

Try replacing critical inner dialogue with gentler, more compassionate thoughts. It's okay to struggle. Speak to yourself as you would a friend.

 5. Focus on What You Can Control

Let go of what’s outside your power. Focus on small, manageable actions that you can do each day.

 6. Have a Personal Wellness Toolbox

Include activities, reminders, coping skills, and supports that help you feel more grounded when life gets stressful. (WRAP® is a great place to start!)

 Resilience Looks Different for Everyone

Some days you'll feel strong and capable. Other days you may feel like you're just getting through. That’s okay. Resilience is built in the quiet choices we make each day to care for ourselves, ask for help, and not give up—even when it’s hard.

If you're not feeling resilient right now, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means you’re human. And it’s never too late to begin rebuilding your strength.

"If you are struggling today, remember this; you have survived everything up to this point. The best day of your life is yet to come"

HELPFUL TOOLS & RESOURCES TO SUPPORT RESILIENCE

There are many gentle, practical approaches that can help support resilience and emotional regulation:

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT / Tapping)

A simple technique where you gently tap on points of the body (based on acupuncture points) while speaking calming statements. It’s known to reduce stress and anxiety.

Breathwork

Breathing exercises help calm the nervous system and bring your body into a more relaxed state. Even 2–3 minutes of slow, deep breathing can shift your mindset.

 Grounding Meditations & Body Scans

These can help you feel more present and safe in your body during difficult moments.

 Journaling

A free and personal way to explore your thoughts, emotions, and triggers. Try prompts like:

"Today, I feel… because…" or "One thing I did well today was…"

 WRAP®  Wellness Recovery Action Plan

A proven self-management tool that helps you build your own personal plan for wellness, recovery, and resilience. We offer WRAP® Training nationwide.

Resilience isn’t about never falling—it’s about finding the courage to rise, again and again. Even in your hardest moments, you are growing stronger than you know. Trust your journey. You already have everything within you to begin again.
