ABOUT US

ABOUT CONNECTWELL

At ConnectWell, we believe that mental health is an essential part of life, and we recognise that many different factors can affect our well-being. Our goal is to support people in achieving and maintaining good mental health through peer-led connection, education, and recovery support.

As a hub for Peer-Led Recovery Education and Peer Support in Cork & Kerry, we take an educational and mentoring approach to mental health. We empower people to become experts in their own well-being by exploring self-awareness, developing coping strategies, and building confidence on their recovery journey. Through shared experiences and supportive relationships, individuals can discover new ways to protect and strengthen their mental health.

We are passionate about co-creating safe spaces where people feel heard, valued, and supported. Recovery is possible, and by learning new skills, setting meaningful personal goals, and fostering hope, individuals can take charge of their own well-being and move forward with greater resilience.

FROM KERRY PEER SUPPORT NETWORK TO CONNECTWELL

In 2011, a group of service users, and mental health professionals, along with Tralee Mental Health Association came together and identified a gap in community services for people experiencing mental health challenges. In line with “A Vision for Change”, we aimed to bridge this gap, particularly for those transitioning from medical settings back into the community. In In 2013, determined to change this, we established Kerry Peer Support Network (KPSN), creating safe spaces where people with lived experience could connect, share, and support each other on their recovery journey.

With the support of the Kerry ETB Community Education Programme and Genio Funding, we provided training in the Principles of Recovery and Peer Facilitation, equipping people with the skills to foster peer-led support. Our goal was clear: to reshape how mental health is spoken about, challenge stigma, and promote recovery.  So, on 29th May 2013, we launched our first Recovery Support Group in Tralee, Kerry, marking the beginning of a movement rooted in hope and empowerment, and so our journey began. Over the years, we remained committed to these core values. As our network grew, so did our vision. In February 2025, we rebranded as ConnectWell, changing our trading name from Kerry Peer Support Network. Our legal name remains the same, but our new name better reflects our deep commitment to our core values of connection, support, and recovery within communities.

Today, our Peer Support Groups continue to operate independently of formal Mental Health Services, providing a non-medical, non-judgmental, and confidential space where people can share experiences and build meaningful connections. Through peer-led support and education, we continue to ensure that everyone is met with hope, dignity, compassion, and mutual respect—because recovery is possible, and no one should have to walk the journey alone.

WHY MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS

Mental health is just as important as physical health, yet it is often misunderstood or overlooked. Good mental well-being allows us to cope with life’s challenges, build strong relationships, and feel a sense of purpose. However, struggles with mental health can affect every aspect of life—our emotions, work, relationships, and overall well-being.

At ConnectWell, we believe that no one should have to face mental health challenges alone. Support, education, and connection are essential in helping people navigate recovery, build resilience, and regain hope. Mental health matters because everyone deserves to live a life of dignity, purpose, and well-being.

By breaking down stigma and co-creating safe spaces for open conversations, we can empower people to take control of their mental health and support each other on the journey to recovery. Together, we can build a stronger, more understanding, and more connected community.

GREATLY SUPPORTED BY

ConnectWell is grateful for the support we’ve received from various funding bodies over the years.
Our work is currently supported by the Health Service Executive (HSE),  and we wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the HSE, whose steadfast and continued funding makes our work possible. Their ongoing support empowers us to deliver peer-led mental health programmes and vital community-based Peer Support Groups. Without the HSE’s commitment to our mission, we simply could not reach those who need us most. We are deeply thankful for their partnership and belief in the transformative power of Peer Support.

With thanks to Kerry County Council and the Community Enhancement Programme (Dept. of Rural Development) for funding soft furnishings to create a warm, welcoming space for our weekly Peer Support Meetings.
